SHERWIN BABBCO
Fidgeon is proud to announce our new partnership with BABBCO. We are now offering BABBCO consumables and equipment to all our customers in the UK.
BABBCO was founded in 1952 near Paris. Today, it is one of the leading European Non-Destructive Testing specialists in penetrant testing and magnetic particle inspection.
BABBCO is a subsidiary of SOCOMORE, a French worldwide player specialised in surface preparation, treatment, protection, and coatings.
We at Fidgeon are incredibly fortunate to be able to work with such a great company and we cannot wait to show our customers what they have to offer.
One Stop Shop
Advice and Support
Our expert sales managers have built a strong rapport with BABBCO experts, and we will be able to assist you in choosing the most appropriate equipment for your needs.
Green NDT
BABBCO places a large emphasis on sustainability and green solutions for NDT. They offer a range of biodegradable products for NDT that are just as effective and certified, but more environmentally friendly
Consumable Variety
NDT consumables are all offered in a variety of packaging formats, to best suit the needs of the customer. This ranges from single aerosols to drums and containers.
Biodegradability
BABBCO prides themselves off offering solutions for NDT that are adapted and responding to the cost of wastewater treatment. The penetrant effluent biodegradability is the digestion of the molecules inside the water-washable penetrant constituents by bacteria.
What does this mean?
Bacteria living in the water breathe oxygen from the water and use it to oxidise the penetrant molecules in the rinse effluent. The carbon and hydrogen chains of the surfactants are transformed into CO2 and H2O. The penetrant components must be in water solution to be within reach of the bacteria that will break them down into simpler and smaller molecules. When the penetrant is in emulsion, the biodegradability test does not apply because the effluent cannot be properly characterised.
Important Parameters to know:
COD = Chemical Oxygen Demand; a measure of forced oxidation representative of the total quantity of oxidizable substance. Usual limit 2g/litre of water per discharge.
BOD5 = Biological Oxygen Demand at 5 days; representative measure of what the bacteria were able to oxidize in 5 days (average duration of treatment in wastewater treatment plants). Usual limit 0.8g/litre of water per discharge.
The COD/BOD5 ratio; the closer it is to 1, the faster the bacteria degrade the effluent. With a ratio of 1, the bacteria have eaten everything in 5 days. With a ratio of 3, only 1/3 of the effluent has been degraded in 5 days.
The effective degradation in 7 days must be at least 70% and extended to more than 90% in 28 days for mixtures (a penetrant is a mixture and not a pure material, it is necessary to be sure that all the constituents can be completely degraded). Under this condition, biodegradability can be initiated.
The effluent must not contain fats and oils. Usual limits 0.1g/litre of water (some surfactants of the penetrant can be confused with oil while they are not). If the effluent discharged is beyond the standard limits, the discharge may be authorized with a surcharge on the clean water consumed, this is not necessarily blocking.
Penetrant testing generates effluents to be treated, it has a cost, and it is not a source of added value. The industrialists will find an advantage to use biodegradable products if this cost item is eliminated.
Bio Fluorescent Penetrant Product Range
HM-440
- Yellow-green colour
- First biodegradable penetrant with low viscosity (unlike classical biodegradable penetrants with low fluidity and thickness.
- Suitable for tanks (low consumption induced, high recovery rate during draining)
HM-602
- Yellow-green colour
- ·Shows the excellent properties of the Sherwin HM series, unaffected by washing with the biodegradability advantage
HM-604
- No petroleum base, a biodegradable synthetic base facilitating the discharge and/or the treatment of effluents
HM-607
- Slightly more sensitive than HM-604
- No petroleum base, a biodegradable synthetic base facilitating the discharge and/or the treatment of effluents
HM-704
- Synthetic base, high biodegradability.
- The HM-X04 series in high and ultra-high sensitivity series developed with a synthetic base allows a relatively easy washing while leaving an acceptable background noise, considering the high sensitivity levels proposed.
Why use Sherwin Babbco Products?
BABBCO products are qualified by all the leading manufacturers, meeting all NDT standards (EN, ISO, AMS, ASTM etc.) They are deeply involved in standardisation proactiveness.
BABBCO strives to reduce the environmental impact of their products by offering a range of biodegradable solutions for penetrant testing, and water-based penetrants for MPI.
As a proud BABBCO distributor, Fidgeon is very pleased to support their biodegradable penetrant product range. BABBCO is currently a recognised NDT supplier to the Aerospace, Automotive, Nuclear, Railway and General NDT industries. We look forward to hearing your BABBCO requests and hope we can encourage the use of biodegradable penetrants.
