ASTM E1742

ASTM E1742 plate type Image Quality Indicators (IQI’s) are used in the radiographic examination of materials to control the image quality. These Lead figures identify the thickness of the material to be radiographed on one end and the material of the IQI on the other end.

Group 3	Cobalt (Haynes 25, Haynes 188)
Group 4	Hastelloy (C or X), Rene 41, Waspaloy and Inconel 625 & 718
Group 5	Zirconium
Group 6	Titanium 6/4 & Plastics/Nylon

Thickness:

2% of the thickness of the material to be radiographed, to the nearest fractional size. Minimum thickness .005”

Hole sizes:

Small hole diameter:           1× thickness (minimum .010”)

Medium hole diameter:       2× thickness (minimum .020”)

Large hole diameter:           4× thickness (minimum .040”)
